Capture

p i c a s s o
stood in big white blocks
in front of the gallery
and a pink hand
ran across his letters,
as the sun set between buildings

somewhere in the park
ghosts flitted from statue
to statue
and trams blocked
the road with steel smiles

while winter trees had the sky
in patches and the pavement
navy blue

we sat and waited
for the 72
and picasso’s
‘O’ jumped out

I photographed the whole word:
a red light had stopped the entire
street, and in the lower
curve of the ‘S’
a man was caught, his
shopping bags glued to air.

    • Thank you! I wrote it ages ago (right after the picasso exhibition came to melb) and forgot about it until now – had to alter the tense a bit before I posted it but it seems to work better now!
