a table set for thousands #3

sometimes they’re like beautiful Trojans
pouring from a horse
and waking you
at night, when every door has
already been checked

sometimes you have to be Dracula
to get them, dry
and unhappy –
gentleman to no-one and
always looking for more

sometimes they wait for hundreds of years
like coy Pharaohs, and even though
you cannot speak them
they speak to you.

(if you jump back to august you can see a link to the #2 of this series, published in colloquy. #1 is still out there somewhere)
