Yehuda Amichai

As mentioned a little while ago, I came across a fantastic poem here and was inspired to hunt down more of Yehuda Amichai’s work.

‘Selected Poems’ finally arrived yesterday and I’m already blown away just a few pages in. I hope to get time to write something more detailed soon!

Here’s a poem (not actually from ‘selected works’ but just as good as the work inside)

My Father

The memory of my father is wrapped up in
white paper, like sandwiches taken for a day at work.

Just as a magician takes towers and rabbits
out of his hat, he drew love from his small body,

and the rivers of his hands
overflowed with good deeds.

  1. That is a beautiful tiny poem. I wanted to look into the poet’s work a little more but the linkages aren’t working, Ashley, too many http’s. Have a great weekend.
