a haiku – rosellas and thistles

Because haiku and senryu are so brief, it’s hard to settle on exactly the right words. There’s so many options, so many variations in where the phrase and fragment lie, how hard to ‘cut’ and what, if any prepositions to use, with how much to show and how much to imply. Revisions can go on forever, but eventually a version of the verse has to be put forward – and it’s always tempting to go back.

Because there’s always another way to express what you’re trying to say.

Although – with haiku, that’s why they’re fun.
